It should be clear by now that we're not looking for a programmer. You should be familiar with IT processes and needs, but with an emphasis on contract renewals, RFPs, negotiations and other aspects of procurement. That expertise will be essential, but just as important will be the communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal customers, vendors and consultants.

You'll support a number of Canon USA employees working in other countries, so you should be able to write clear and concise emails. You'll also need to be able to probe for information as you work with all contacts, to be sure you have a clear understanding of details. In some cases, you will need to be able to manage expectations.

Once you are up to speed, we'll look to you to take ownership of your role. At the same time, of course, support is always available. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Senior IT Procurement Specialist, you will:
  • Establish yourself as a resource to your internal customers
  • Achieve goals independently, and also contribute as a team player
  • Prioritize work effectively, such as knowing which situations call for a full RFP and which should be handled with a quick turnaround
  • Take a proactive approach to getting up to speed quickly
  • Stay abreast of technological developments as well as best practices in your area
  • Remain flexible as your role, the procurement function, and our company continue to evolve
