Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Engineering Group, you will join a growing team of Engineering Technicians supporting industrial products, particularly Canon's photolithography equipment customers and enables them to utilize cutting-edge technology in their semiconductor manufacturing process. Specifically, you will:
  • Install, repair, calibrate and maintain semiconductor process equipment while minimizing equipment downtime. Escalate advanced repairs, as needed, to senior-level technicians.
  • Monitor, inspect and maintain semiconductor equipment in order to prevent and minimize malfunctions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activity and provide periodic reports.
  • Monitor stock level of service parts and equipment to ensure adequate inventory is available for repair work.
  • Provide training and assistance to technicians; you also may provide basic instruction to customers.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training to expand your technical expertise.
The Equipment
You will work on Canon's high-value, multi-million-dollar semiconductor lithography equipment, commonly referred to as steppers and scanners (pictured throughout). The equipment was developed to meet the technical requirements of a wide range of applications including, but not limited to, traditional semiconductor wafer processing in which a circuit pattern is transferred from a mask to a wafer or panel. You will be responsible for equipment maintenance and repair. This is an essential role requiring a strong sense of urgency and the ability to work effectively under pressure because downtime typically costs customers thousands of dollars per hour of non-operation.

This description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

To be clear, this is not an operator role. You'll follow SOPs, but the job involves much more than ticking off the boxes. You'll need to develop a strong understanding of what is behind the procedures you perform and how the various parts of the equipment interact. You'll collect data regularly, and in addition to simply reporting it, you'll need to be able to interpret it and use it in troubleshooting.

Technical knowledge will be essential, but just as important will be communication and interpersonal skills. You'll interact with customers often and, in addition to representing Canon effectively, you'll need to be able to probe for information. This may involve interacting with non-technical people, and you'll need to adjust your communication style accordingly. Customer service is a priority, although you also will need to manage expectations in some situations.

Those who thrive on the Technical Support team share the following qualities:
  • A passion for Canon's semiconductor products.
  • Self-motivation and a strong drive to excel.
  • Big-picture vision as well as robust attention to detail.
  • A sense of ownership and accountability.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
