As Associate Specialist, Regulatory Compliance, Latin America, you will report to and support the Product Safety Manager in ensuring product safety regulatory compliance for our products sold in Latin American countries. You may support any Canon product line, but most of your work will involve inkjet printers and copiers. Quick question for you - click here

More about the requirements
In addition to the qualifications listed under The Requirements tab, we're looking for a professional who has:

Preferred but not required:
  • Knowledge of product safety and/or electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) such as FCC, FDA, and UL policies
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Knowledge of the printing business
  • An associate's or bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical engineering or environmental sciences is preferred but not required
You may have acquired relevant experience in quality control or lab testing roles, which would be great. To be clear, however, this is a "back office" role, not a hands-on one. For the time being, you should plan on working remotely about three days a week and in the office the other two days. We follow protocols to ensure the health and safety of all employees. Our post-COVID return-to-work plans are not yet finalized.

More about the role
In addition to the responsibilities under The Role tab, you will:
  • Assist with Type approval applications for Canon products required to optimize the sale of the products in a particular foreign market, including:
    • Assuming responsibility for effective and efficient approval tracking with regulators
    • Verifying application fees, model names, and enter information in the Type Approval applications
  • Process certificate invoices in Oracle and coordinate with CUSA A/P for payment verification, follow up and code invoices in Oracle system
  • Request proof of payment from CUSA accounts payable to notify regulators to release the certificates
  • Manage the generic mailbox used to send Type Approval applications and assist regulators with their inquiries, resolve problems, complaints, investigate and process Type Approval applications fees, and obtain in-country regulations updates.
  • Investigate, as requested, current standards in compliance regulations for each market where Canon intends to operate
  • Assist with review and maintain files of regulatory compliance documents for all Canon products on which regulations mandates type-approval (homologation) for equipment that is connected to the public switched network (e.g. fax), using the radio spectrum (e.g. wi-fi), causing or affected by electromagnetic energy. (e.g. EMC), potentially hazard to the end user (e.g. electrical safety)
  • Support the administration of product safety and EMC compliance programs including review, confirmation of certification, declaration, products registration, maintenance and record keeping
  • Provide information and consultation to supervisor for inquiries and requests related to product safety
  • Assist in the development, maintenance and update of internal policy, procedure and program(s) for regulatory compliance
  • Perform product safety data entry into the S21 system on a daily basis to ensure items are ready for export
More about your success
Your ability to understand technical and compliance information will be essential, but just as important will be the communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external contacts. We understand that there will be a learning curve, but we'll look to you to be proactive about getting up to speed quickly. Once you hit your stride, we'll look to you to take ownership of your role. At the same time, of course, support is always available.

You'll need to pay keen attention to details, including entering data correctly and understanding the importance of using specific terms and phrases in compliance documentation. There will be a lot of action items to track, so you will need strong follow-up and follow-through skills. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Associate Specialist, Regulatory Compliance, Latin America, you will:
  • Establish yourself as a resource to your internal customers
  • Achieve goals independently, and also contribute as a team player
  • Handle multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively
  • Stay abreast of changes in the compliance landscape
  • Remain flexible as your role and our company continue to evolve
